'On The Road'- Dunkirk FC

Our recent Proper Football 'On the road' club visit brought us to the Ron Steel Sports Ground in Nottingham, home of Dunkirk FC, where they entertained Sleaford Town FC in the United Counties Division One clash.
As you will see in the following video, the facilities here would not look out of place at Step 4; however, there is a need for some improvement, which the club are actively working on. Overall, this is an excellent facility worthy of a higher position.
The Step Six side have made several significant changes on and off the field during the close season, and with the new incoming Chairman, Gary Clarke, there is a real buzz around the place and ambition to take the club forward.
There is no greater testament to all the hard work that has gone on this summer than the fact that last season‘s average attendance was 50; this season so far it is now 200, and with today’s attendance of 274, it’s clear the hard work is beginning to pay off!
Ahead of the match, we were joined by co-manager Sam Ralph, who gave us an insight into the ambitions of the club on the pitch.
Dunkirk were formed just after the war in 1946, and their nickname is the Boatman, which was adopted in the 1990s.
The stadium capacity is 1500, with significant room to develop the stadium, giving the club a solid platform for progression in the non-league pyramid.
We had the pleasure of speaking to Sanj Beri, who has been brought in to help improve the fan experience on a matchday to create a welcoming environment for the local community and a place for youngsters to feel part of something.
Disappointment for Dunkirk with the final score being 0-2 to Sleaford Town. In fairness, the game was even, with the score line slightly flattering Sleaford; both sides had their chances, but Dunkirk were just unable to hit the back of the net, including a missed penalty.
All that said, a great day out with very good people.

FINAL THOUGHTS
It’s very clear to me that this club have ambition; the off-field changes made this summer are a clear indicator of the ambition of the club. There is a really good feel factor amongst all involved, both on and off the field and more importantly, their ambition for success is also met with a very solid financial plan for sustainability.
The stadium itself is really good, but what stood out to me the most was the potential they have to make this a top top stadium.
