What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Dan Slawson aka Danny Choo Choo lol, born and bred in Dulwich,
South London.
How long have you been DJ'ing?
Only been DJ'ing on radio stations for the last few years but have been an avid collector of house music for over 30 years but was more into enjoying myself and listening to others playing the music in the clubs lol. 😵
What genres do you play?
Mostly House, Soul-Funk Disco.
What shows can we hear from you on Proper Football Radio?
You can find me in the Proper Football Cafe every Saturday at 10 am playing a bit of everything, along with a football quiz and shit football tips 😂
I also do the House music express and Soul-Funk-Disco train shows when I'm not driving real trains about. Lol
Who are your favourite bands or artists?
Never been a big follower of bands but have always liked The Jam, The Style Council, Jamiroquai, and more recently The Skinner Brothers, artist wise, I grew up on Barry White being played by my old man, so I think that's where my love of soulful Funky Disco music come from lol.
I'm more into DJs and producers what with being a house head, Frankie Knuckles is without a doubt my biggest inspiration and the reason I got into house music having had the privilege of seeing him DJ many times and being blown away, also, joey negro, Paul Trouble Anderson and CJ Macintosh who were pioneers of the UK house scene are right up there for me.
Favourite single/album of all time?
So hard to pick one, but, Frankie Knuckles Presents Satoshi Tomiie - Tears has got to be one of my favourites, a timeless classic.
Which team do you support?
Crystal Palace.
How did you start supporting them?
Have to hold my hands up and admit I like many young kids in the early 80s was a Liverpool fan 🙈 but thankfully one of my brothers took me to see Paul Hinshelwood's testimonial game for Palace against QPR in 1984 for my first match and that was me hooked!
Favourite player?
There's been a few lol, Captain Jim Cannon was a favourite at first then obviously when Ian Wright came on the scene he was unbelievable, but one player I really admired was Matt Jansen who we bought from Carlisle after he turned down Man United, he was a fantastic player and was on the brink of an England call up but had a moped crash on holiday and was never the same, definitely someone who could've made it to the top, can't not mention Wilfred Zaha who other fans love to hate lol but on his day is unplayable.
some fantastic young players coming through now with a thriving academy so no doubt my next favourite player will soon change lol.
Most memorable match?
Without a doubt the 4-3 FA Cup semi-final win over Liverpool in 1990 at Villa Park, considering we lost 9-0 at Anfield a few months earlier made it even sweeter
Best away day?
So many good memories over the years from trips up and down the country in our minibus out of our local pub in West Dulwich, a weekend away in Plymouth, and up at Blackburn in the playoffs at Ewood Park spring to mind.
I also remember being at Elland Road on a Tuesday night with only a few hundred Palace there, we scored the winner and I remember running down the big terrace to celebrate with the players only to trip over and then start rolling down the concrete steps for what seemed like an age and finally getting back on my feet only to see the game had kicked off again lol then hearing my mates start singing “you fat bastard” at me which then travelled around the whole ground with 30,000 Leeds fans joining in! 😂😂😂
Great days lol. 🙈
what else do you do on Proper Football?
